NCG Engineer - HBM Layout

Role Summary

Entry-level layout engineer focused on physical layout design and verification for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) circuits. The role is on a hardware design team responsible for leaf cell/stdcell and sub-block layout, physical verification interpretation, and cross-team coordination to deliver manufacturable custom layouts.

Experience Level

Entry-level (New college graduate). Candidates are expected to have graduated within the last two years.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform layout design of leaf cells, standard cells and sub-blocks for HBM-related circuits.
  • Interpret DRC, LVS and other physical verification reports and implement fixes.
  • Collaborate with design, verification and process teams to ensure layout success and manufacturability.
  • Plan work to meet deliverables and demonstrate ownership to complete assignments on schedule.
  • Apply automation and AI techniques to streamline technical and non-technical processes.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills; must-have items are listed first.

  • Must-have: Strong knowledge of electronic circuit concepts and experience using circuit simulation and design tools.
  • Must-have: Conversational English and effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a team.
  • Must-have: Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to learn semiconductor layout practices.
  • Must-have: Experience or interest in applying AI/automation to processes.
  • Nice-to-have: Internship or project experience in pre-silicon circuit design, analog circuits, or physical design.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with CMOS fundamentals, analog layout basics, and how layout affects speed, capacitance, power and area.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with scripting or programming (C++, Python) and tools such as Cadence VLE/VXL or Mentor Calibre (DRC/LVS).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, Nanotechnology or a similar technical field. Candidates must have graduated within the last two years from their degree program.
