Job Title
NAND Custom Test Circuit Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design, validate, and optimize custom test circuits for NAND flash memory at the transistor and mixed-signal levels. Work with layout and product engineering teams to ensure testability, manufacturability, and robust silicon bring-up. Use simulation, lab measurement, and AI-assisted tooling to accelerate design review and fault isolation.
Experience Level
Mid-level β minimum 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, validation, and cross-functional support for custom test circuits used in NAND memory development and production.
- Develop, integrate, and optimize custom test circuit architectures (transistor-level digital, analog, mixed-signal, monitoring, control, and memory-array interfaces).
- Derive circuit functionality, interfaces, operating limits, controllability/observability, and validation criteria from product specifications.
- Create and review schematics, device sizing, bias structures, sensing/monitoring paths, and multiplexing relevant to test circuits.
- Analyze testability and robustness to meet quality, coverage, manufacturability, power, area, and reliability targets.
- Validate circuits using fast transistor-level (XA) simulations, Verilog, and mixed-signal validation; review post-layout results and drive closure with layout teams.
- Support first-silicon bring-up, debug, characterization, failure isolation, and simulation-to-silicon correlation; work with Product Engineering through production ramp.
- Create and debug test sequences and test modes for wafer and package level validation; use lab measurements and silicon data for root-cause and design improvements.
- Evaluate circuit risks including leakage, contention, floating nodes, overstress, power sequencing, current density, EM/IR, and long-duration stress.
- Apply AI-assisted engineering workflows and develop scripting/automation to accelerate circuit review, simulation triage, waveform analysis, and documentation.
- Document methodologies, specifications, design decisions, validation results, silicon correlation, and technical recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and behaviors for this role.
- Hands-on experience in custom/analog circuit design, mixed-signal design, memory peripheral circuit design, or product engineering with transistor-level circuit and silicon-debug exposure.
- Strong understanding of CMOS device operation, transistor-level design, leakage mechanisms, parasitics, PVT sensitivity, timing, loading, noise margin, power, and reliability principles.
- Proficiency with circuit build entry, waveform debugging, and post-layout verification.
- Experience with XA or equivalent fast transistor-level simulation tools, Verilog, and mixed-signal validation methodologies.
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting for simulation automation, regression analysis, result extraction, and waveform processing.
- Ability to identify workflows that benefit from AI, and to develop or adapt AI-enabled engineering solutions while applying appropriate technical review and data protection practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective interpersonal skills for global, multi-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Understanding of NAND flash memory architecture, test modes, peripheral circuits, internal signal access, and wafer/package test considerations.
- Laboratory skills using oscilloscopes, logic/signal analyzers, source-measure equipment, function generators, and hands-on wafer/package silicon testing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
