MTS - Firmware
EtchedJob Title
MTS - Firmware
Role Summary
Develop firmware and low-level software that bridges Etched's custom hardware and higher-level AI frameworks to maximize throughput and latency for large inference models. Work across drivers, APIs, embedded systems, and application-level code.
Collaborate with engineering and research teams in Austin and periodically in San Jose to deliver production-ready firmware and system software for inference products.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and debug firmware and low-level drivers for embedded systems and custom accelerator hardware.
- Develop and optimize software across the full stack—from hardware interfaces and device drivers to APIs and frameworks—for large AI inference workloads.
- Work with embedded architectures and IO technologies (I2C, SPI, PCIe, DRAM) to ensure reliable data movement and performance.
- Implement scalability, fault tolerance, and consistency mechanisms in firmware and system software.
- Participate in product launches: develop, test, and stabilize firmware for shipping products.
- Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary engineering and research teams; spend regular time on-site in Austin and periodic time in San Jose for ramp and ongoing collaboration.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills:
- Proven software development experience with solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
- Experience developing and testing software for product launches.
- Practical experience in firmware design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with embedded architectures and IO interfaces such as I2C, SPI, PCIe, and DRAM.
- Familiarity with system-level concerns: scalability, fault tolerance, and consistency.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience resolving customer-related issues and supporting deployments.
- Comfort solving ambiguous problems across hardware and software boundaries.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience required. Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field preferred. "Equivalent practical experience" is acceptable in lieu of formal degrees.
