Module Engineering PhD Intern - Wet Etch
Role Summary
Support development, optimization, and sustainment of wet-etch process modules in high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. Work on-site with cross-functional engineering teams to improve process capability, yield, quality, and equipment performance.
Hands-on role involving process and equipment troubleshooting, data-driven analysis, and presenting technical findings to engineering stakeholders.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for current PhD candidates (student / intern role).
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include experimental, analytical, and equipment-focused tasks to improve manufacturing performance.
- Support development, implementation, optimization, and sustainment of module-level semiconductor processes.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and qualify manufacturing equipment to ensure stability and reliability.
- Analyze process and equipment data to identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance process control, yield, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Investigate and resolve process- and equipment-related issues affecting production.
- Apply scientific and engineering principles to solve technical challenges in a high-volume environment.
- Execute hands-on projects aligned with business objectives and present results to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and relevant experience for immediate contribution (education requirements are listed separately below).
- Demonstrated knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing, materials processing, or device fabrication through research, coursework, lab work, or industry experience.
- Experience applying scientific and engineering methodologies to solve technical problems.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform hands-on work and collaborate on-site with engineering teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Cumulative GPA β₯ 3.0.
- Prior educational, research, laboratory, internship, or industry experience (3+ months preferred).
- Experience with data analysis, statistics, modeling, simulation, automation, or visualization tools (Python, MATLAB, SQL, JMP, R, or equivalent).
- Experience leveraging AI/LLMs in research or engineering workflows.
- Research, projects, publications, or internships related to semiconductor technology, process development, materials science, or device physics.
- Strong written and verbal communication and ability to work in a team while managing multiple priorities.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
