Module Development Engineer - LTD Dry Etch
Intel CorporationJob Title
Module Development Engineer - LTD Dry Etch
Role Summary
Work on Logic Technology Development to drive dry-etch patterning process development for advanced logic and manufacturing. The role partners with Process Integration, Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Yield/Defect Engineering, and suppliers to develop, qualify, and sustain etch processes and related control systems. Regular onsite presence is required.
Experience Level
Mid-level (experienced engineering hire). Candidates typically have multiple years of industry experience developing dry etch processes; preferred candidates have 4+ years of direct industry experience.
Responsibilities
The role leads technical development and transfer activities across process, equipment, and manufacturing domains.
- Develop and optimize next-generation patterning/etch process architectures and qualification methods.
- Perform pathfinding and feasibility studies on existing and first-of-kind equipment to enable new device architectures.
- Design and execute characterization plans and experiments (DOE, response-surface, robustness studies).
- Lead cross-functional root cause analysis, containment, and corrective actions for complex process and defect issues.
- Establish and mature production control systems (SPC, control plans, alarms, recipe governance, sustaining systems).
- Partner with equipment and material suppliers to develop and implement enabling technology elements.
- Recommend equipment modifications and process changes to improve yield, reliability, cost, and throughput and ensure scalable transfer to manufacturing.
- Document and implement standard work, monitoring, dashboards, and knowledge capture for sustainment.
- Mentor peers and communicate technical status and risks to stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (minimum qualifications below were restated in Education Requirements and therefore are not duplicated here).
- Hands-on experience in dry etch semiconductor manufacturing, including ownership of process development and optimization.
- Deep knowledge of plasma etch fundamentals: plasma generation, plasma-surface interactions, selectivity, profile control, and defect mechanisms.
- Proven track record delivering dry etch process solutions that improved yield, reliability, performance, or manufacturability.
- Strong statistical analysis and DOE skills; experience with JMP, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data-driven decisions.
- Experience implementing APC and variability-reduction strategies in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lead structured problem solving across functions and influence stakeholders without formal people management authority.
Nice-to-have / preferred
- Experience with ICP/CCP, HARC, ALE, radical/vapor isotropic etch, ash and surface treatments, and EUV-patterned layer etch integration.
- Experience with SEM, TEM, CD-SEM, AFM, XPS, and electrical correlation for materials/device characterization.
- Demonstrated experience reducing etch-driven defects and improving metrology in a production environment.
- 4+ years of direct industry experience developing and deploying dry etch processes for advanced logic or foundry technologies.
Education Requirements
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a semiconductor-related STEM field; OR Master's in those fields with ~2 years relevant industry or graduate research experience; OR Bachelor's in those fields with 4+ years of industry experience at a leading foundry or dry-etch equipment supplier. The posting also allows equivalent combinations of industry experience, internships, academic projects, or research to meet minimum qualification thresholds.
