Job Title

Modem Hardware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement modem hardware for wireless systems with a focus on RTL, micro-architecture, and first-time-right silicon delivery. The role is part of a hardware engineering team that collaborates with verification, modeling, physical implementation, system, RF, firmware, and software teams.

The team applies AI-driven methodologies, including GenAI and ML-assisted flows, and agentic-AI automation frameworks to accelerate design and verification processes.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early career. Typical guidance: 1–3 years of relevant engineering experience depending on academic level and background.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include specification, RTL development, and cross-domain collaboration to deliver modem ASICs.

  • Define specifications, architecture and micro-architecture for modem blocks.
  • Develop, optimize, and review RTL for area, power, and performance.
  • Implement RTL coding and logic design for wireless modem ASICs.
  • Collaborate with verification, modeling, synthesis, and physical implementation teams to achieve first-time-right silicon.
  • Work with system, RF, firmware and software teams to integrate modem functionality.
  • Apply AI/ML-assisted design and automation tools to accelerate design and verification flows.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted.

  • Experience with RTL languages and flows: Verilog/SystemVerilog and RTL coding for ASICs.
  • Familiarity with synthesis, LINT tools, clock domain crossing (CDC) and low-power design techniques.
  • Verification awareness and collaboration with verification teams.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting: C/C++, Python, Unix/Linux shell; knowledge of Makefiles, XML, Perl is helpful.
  • Experience in wireless, semiconductor, or embedded software industries (preferred).
  • Practical experience with WWAN modem development is a plus (preferred, e.g., 6+ months).
  • Ability to work across hardware and software disciplines and communicate design tradeoffs clearly.

Education Requirements

Degree-based options: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Typical experience guidance tied to degree: Bachelor's + ~2 years experience, Master's + ~1 year experience, or PhD (experience expectations vary). Equivalent practical experience is acceptable as indicated in the posting.
