ML/AI Senior Compiler Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
ML/AI Senior Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Compiler Engineer will design and implement compiler and graph-compiler features to optimize ML/AI models for NXP embedded processors. You will work on LLVM/MLIR-based toolchains, collaborate with hardware architects and ML researchers, and support silicon enablement for automotive SoCs.
Experience Level
Senior — requires substantial experience (the posting specifies 10+ years in compiler technologies).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on design, implementation, and optimization of ML/AI compiler technology for embedded targets.
- Design and implement ML/AI compiler features and optimizations targeting embedded hardware (C++/LLVM/MLIR).
- Implement compiler support for ARM and RISC-V CPU cores, including code generation and optimization pipelines.
- Develop graph-compiler passes: lowering, fusion, tiling, scheduling, and other graph-level optimizations for AI workloads.
- Analyze generated code with simulators, profilers, and analysis tools to improve performance and code quality.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, ML researchers, and worldwide development teams to integrate compiler features into the toolchain.
- Contribute to design, development, testing, and deployment of NXP-specific compiler features across the compiler framework.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and desirable additional skills.
- Must-have: 10+ years professional experience in compiler technologies (LLVM/MLIR, LLVM IR, Clang, LLVM pass framework, optimization pipelines, code generation, linkers).
- Must-have: Production-quality C++ and Python programming experience.
- Must-have: Experience with ML frameworks and toolchains (example: PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, XLA, TVM, TensorRT) and lowering models into IR.
- Must-have: Experience optimizing graph compilers for AI workloads (fusion, tiling, scheduling) and embedded systems constraints.
- Must-have: Strong understanding of computer architecture (caches, pipelines, ISAs) and embedded systems programming requirements.
- Proven ability to analyze complex compiler codebases and produce timely, accurate solutions.
- Experience using simulators, profilers, and analysis tools to drive improvements in code generation.
- Good communication skills and experience working with distributed/global teams.
- Nice-to-have: prior contributions to open-source compiler projects or community engagement.
Education Requirements
University degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with significant exposure to Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems.
