ML/AI Senior Compiler Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
ML/AI Senior Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement compiler tools and optimizations for embedded processors, focusing on AI/ML model lowering, graph compilers (MLIR), and end-to-end performance on automotive SoCs. The role is part of the global compiler team enabling pre-silicon and production software for NXP embedded platforms.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 10+ years of professional experience in compiler technologies and related toolchains.
Responsibilities
Work on compiler and toolchain features that enable efficient ML inference on embedded hardware and collaborate with architecture and ML research teams.
- Design and implement AI/ML compiler technologies to optimize models for embedded hardware using C++ and LLVM/MLIR.
- Implement compiler features and code generation for ARM and RISC-V CPU cores.
- Develop graph compiler passes for lowering models (PyTorch/TensorFlow) into efficient IR and perform graph-level optimizations (fusion, tiling, scheduling).
- Profile and analyze compiler-generated code using simulators and profilers to improve code generation quality and performance.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, ML researchers, and worldwide development teams throughout design, development, and deployment cycles.
- Contribute to integration with ML frameworks and toolchains (ONNX, XLA, TVM, TensorRT) and maintain production-quality code.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.
- 10+ years of professional experience in compiler technologies (LLVM/MLIR, LLVM IR, Clang, pass frameworks, optimization pipelines, code generation).
- Experience with ML frameworks and stacks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, MLIR, XLA, TVM, TensorRT).
- Production-quality development in C++ and Python.
- Experience designing and optimizing graph compiler passes for AI workloads and lowering models into efficient IR.
- Experience with graph-level optimizations: fusion, tiling, scheduling.
- Experience analyzing and improving generated code using simulators, profilers, and analysis tools.
- Embedded systems programming experience and understanding of compiler requirements for constrained targets.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture, including caches, pipelines, and instruction set architectures.
- Good communication skills and proven ability to work with remote, international teams.
- Experience contributing to open-source compiler or ML projects.
Education Requirements
University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field with significant exposure to Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems.
