ML/AI Compiler Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
ML/AI Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
Developer-focused compiler engineer on the NXP Global Compiler Team responsible for designing and implementing ML/AI compiler technologies and compiler features for embedded processors. The role supports silicon enablement for automotive SoCs and works with hardware architects, ML researchers, and global software teams to optimize model execution on NXP platforms.
Experience Level
Mid-level — requires approximately 5+ years of professional experience in compiler technologies.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on compiler design, optimization, and collaboration with hardware and software teams.
- Design and implement ML/AI compiler technologies to optimize models for embedded hardware using C++ and LLVM.
- Develop compiler features for ARM and RISC-V CPU cores, including code generation and optimization passes.
- Implement graph-to-IR lowering, graph compiler passes, and graph-level optimizations (fusion, tiling, scheduling).
- Work with hardware architects and ML researchers to shape model lowering, optimization, and execution strategies for novel architectures.
- Analyze compiler-generated code with simulators, profilers, and analysis tools to improve code quality and performance.
- Contribute to development, integration, and deployment cycles for NXP-specific compiler features within the compiler framework.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: 5+ years of professional experience in compiler technologies (LLVM/MLIR, LLVM IR, Clang, LLVM pass framework, optimization pipelines, code generation, linkers).
- Must-have: Production-quality C++ and Python development experience.
- Must-have: Experience implementing graph compiler passes, lowering models into efficient IR, and applying graph-level optimizations.
- Must-have: Embedded systems programming experience and familiarity with compiler requirements for embedded targets.
- Must-have: Solid understanding of computer architecture (caches, pipelines, ISAs) and how it affects code generation and performance.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with ML frameworks and stacks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, MLIR/XLA, TVM, TensorRT).
- Nice-to-have: Experience using simulators, profilers, and analysis tools to tune generated code.
- Nice-to-have: Prior contributions to open-source compiler or ML toolchain projects.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with remote and distributed teams.
Education Requirements
University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field with significant exposure to Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems.
