Job Title
Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver analog and mixed-signal circuits and subsystems for Apple SoCs. The role focuses on transistor-level analog design, mixed-signal interfaces, digital control blocks, simulation, verification, and driving designs into production.
The engineer will work within a hardware/IC design team and collaborate with cross-functional teams including digital, verification, firmware, architecture, packaging, silicon validation, production test, and manufacturing.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Years of experience not explicitly stated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include hands-on design, verification, and production ramp activities for mixed-signal IP and subsystems.
- Specify, architect, and implement analog and mixed-signal circuits and subsystems (transistor-level analog, mixed-signal interfaces, digital control/signal-processing blocks).
- Perform transistor-level and system-level simulations and validate top-level integration.
- Develop models and run high-level simulations to verify integration and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (digital, DV, firmware, SoC architecture, technology, packaging, validation, test, manufacturing) to integrate designs and resolve issues.
- Define and execute production and bench-top test plans; analyze results and drive design of experiments (DOEs) to improve yield and performance.
- Create integration guides, documentation, and support materials for upstream/downstream teams.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience followed by valued (nice-to-have) qualifications.
-
Must-have: Practical experience designing analog and mixed-signal circuits and taking them to production, including ADC/DAC architectures and analog building blocks (band-gaps, bias generators, TIAs, op-amps, filters, switched-cap circuits, LDOs).
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of precision analog design techniques (feedback/compensation, chopping, dynamic element matching, frequency planning, trimming/calibration) and knowledge of device physics relevant to semiconductor manufacturing.
-
Must-have: Experience with modeling or verification using C, MATLAB, or Verilog and proficiency in Python for design/analysis tasks.
-
Must-have: Experience working with product and production test engineers to develop and validate test plans and diagnose sources of parametric yield loss.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience in AI/ML applied to analog/mixed-signal design and optimization; experience in digital-intensive SoCs.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with techniques for designing in the presence of device mismatch and high supply noise; experience applying adaptive algorithms for calibration and performance improvement.
-
Nice-to-have: Strong verbal and written communication skills to distill technical issues.
Education Requirements
BS (Bachelor's) degree in a technical discipline is required. The posting does not specify preferred fields of study (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering) or mention equivalent experience as an alternative.
