Job Title
Mixed-Signal Hardware Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate mixed-signal electrical subsystems for instrumented wafer products used in semiconductor manufacturing. Work on analog and digital circuitry, sensor interfaces, power management, and PCB/substrate integration for products from concept through production.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 3+ years of experience designing electronic hardware; see Education Requirements for degree-to-experience mappings.
Responsibilities
Develop and deliver electrical subsystems and support cross-disciplinary integration.
- Design mixed-signal analog and digital circuitry for sensing, measurement, and embedded applications.
- Define electrical architectures and evaluate tradeoffs for performance, power, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Select and integrate sensors, ADCs, microcontrollers, memory, batteries, communication interfaces, and power-management components.
- Create schematics and drive PCB/substrate development through reviews and release.
- Develop system-level requirements, error budgets, calibration strategies, and measurement specifications.
- Plan and execute validation, electrical characterization, and design verification tests.
- Lead technical investigations, perform debugging and root-cause analysis for complex hardware issues.
- Collaborate with firmware, systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and product teams throughout development and production.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required to perform the role; preferred items listed separately.
- 3+ years designing and developing electronic hardware products, including mixed-signal circuits.
- Practical experience developing schematics and supporting PCB design and integration.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and other test equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience driving technical investigations and debugging with root-cause analysis.
- Ability to independently execute subsystem designs with limited supervision and coordinate across disciplines.
Nice-to-have:
- Precision sensor interfaces and analog front-end design experience.
- Experience with low-power electronics, battery-powered devices, or energy management systems.
- Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, RF, BLE, or optical communication interfaces.
- Experience with PCB tools such as Altium, OrCAD, Cadence, or PADS.
- Experience with simulation/analysis tools such as LTspice, ADS, HyperLynx, MATLAB, or Python.
- Experience supporting products through qualification and production release; domain experience in semiconductor equipment, instrumentation, robotics, aerospace, medical devices, or industrial automation.
Education Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline is specified. Minimum qualifications map degrees to experience: Doctorate with 0 years related experience; Master's with 3 years related experience; Bachelor's with 5 years related experience.
