Job Title
Mixed-Signal Hardware Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver mixed-signal electrical subsystems for advanced instrumented wafer products in the SensArray division. Work across hardware, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and product teams to take designs from concept through production.
This role requires ownership of subsystem architecture, hardware design, validation, and troubleshooting in constrained, production-oriented environments.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires 3+ years of relevant electronic hardware design experience; specific minimum experience varies by degree level (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop mixed-signal electrical subsystems for instrumented wafer products.
- Define electrical architectures and evaluate trade-offs for performance, power, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Develop low-power analog and digital circuitry for sensing, measurement, and embedded applications.
- Select and integrate sensors, ADCs, microcontrollers, memory, batteries, comms, and power-management components.
- Create schematics and drive PCB/substrate development through design reviews and release.
- Develop system-level requirements, error budgets, calibration strategies, and measurement specifications.
- Plan and execute validation, electrical characterization, and design verification testing.
- Lead technical investigations, troubleshoot complex hardware issues, and perform root-cause analysis.
- Coordinate with firmware, systems, mechanical, manufacturing, and product engineering throughout development and production.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 3+ years designing and developing electronic hardware products (per job posting requirements).
- Practical experience with mixed-signal circuit design (analog and digital).
- Experience creating schematics and supporting PCB/substrate design and integration.
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and other test equipment.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills; experience driving technical investigations and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to independently execute subsystem designs with limited supervision.
Nice-to-have:
- Precision sensor interfaces and analog front-end design experience.
- Experience with low-power, battery-powered devices or energy management systems.
- Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, RF, BLE, or optical interfaces.
- Experience with PCB tools (Altium, OrCAD, Cadence, PADS) and simulation tools (LTspice, ADS, HyperLynx, MATLAB, Python).
- Background in semiconductor equipment, instrumentation, robotics, medical devices, or industrial automation.
Education Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline is expected. Minimum qualifications list degree/experience combinations: Doctorate (PhD) with 0 years related experience; Master's with ~3 years related experience; Bachelor's with ~5 years related experience. Fields referenced include electrical/electronics and related technical disciplines.
