Mixed-Signal Electronic Design Engineer 2
Role Summary
Design and develop mixed-signal electronics including analog and digital circuits, PCBs, embedded systems, and sensor interfaces. Support system architecture, schematic capture, simulation, PCB layout oversight, prototype bring-up, verification, and manufacturing support as part of a multidisciplinary team within Draper's Tailored Systems Business Area.
This role supports mission-focused R&D and requires onsite presence in Cambridge, MA. Applicants may be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 3β5 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Translate system and project requirements into hardware architectures and perform trade studies.
- Design instruments and circuit boards including microprocessors, power systems, analog circuitry, and sensor integration.
- Create schematics, perform simulations, and oversee PCB layout and manufacturing documentation.
- Build, debug, and characterize prototypes; perform functional verification and performance testing.
- Support proposal development, project execution, and system-level electrical analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute technical reports and presentations.
- Identify design risks and communicate technical issues to project leadership.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 3β5 years of experience in electronic/electrical engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- Proficiency in electronic design, schematic capture, simulation, and PCB layout oversight.
- Experience with miniature low-power embedded systems, sensor integration, and wireless communication interfaces.
- Embedded software experience (C/C++/assembly) and basic FPGA firmware knowledge (VHDL or Verilog).
- Familiarity with signal and power integrity analysis tools (e.g., HyperLynx, Ansys) and miniature electronic packaging using bare die or chip-scale packages.
- Ability to develop code for bring-up tests and debug prototypes.
- Strong analytical, written/verbal communication, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
