Role Summary

Responsible for planning and executing full-chip IC layout from definition through release to production. Works within the layout team and with design, process, and packaging engineers to meet area, performance and schedule targets.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include ownership of layout delivery, technical coordination, and quality control.

• Define layout schedules, estimate effort, assess risks and implement mitigation plans for project layout activities.
• Collaborate with designers to understand architecture and critical IC requirements.
• Balance area, performance and schedule during layout development in coordination with design, packaging and process teams.
• Work with process development to update PDKs, P-cells and design rules.
• Collaborate with packaging engineers to develop custom lead-frames and package solutions.
• Analyze and resolve electro-migration, thermal gradients, ESD/LU issues and layout parasitic effects.
• Develop test vehicles for new process and package technology development.
• Mentor and review work of junior and contract layout engineers to meet quality and schedule norms.
• Deliver final layouts that meet design expectations and the project layout checklist; drive process and cycle-time improvements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools and behaviors.

• Full-chip layout experience through release to production.
• Strong LVS, DRC, ERC and antenna debugging skills.
• Proficient in analog and mixed-signal layout techniques and verification, including device matching, power-bus design, cross-talk avoidance, and ESD/LU protection techniques.
• Solid understanding of layout parasitics (R, C, diode, BJT) and device physics.
• Experience with process technologies such as 40nm, 65nm, 90nm, 130nm, 180nm, BiCMOS, and BCD.
• Familiarity with tools like Virtuoso XL, Assura, PVS and Voltas.
• Strong teamwork, communication, documentation, problem-solving and time-management skills.
• Ability to ramp up on new tools and processes and to mentor other layout engineers.
• Nice-to-have: automation or SKILL coding experience to reduce cycle time and improve quality checks.
