Job Title

Mixed Signal Design Engineer II

Role Summary

Work on mixed-signal ASIC/ROIC development for visible and infrared image sensors as part of a multidisciplinary design team. The role includes architecture, transistor-level analog/mixed-signal design, digital timing and image processing, verification, and coordination with fabrication, packaging, test, and failure analysis.

This position is onsite in Goleta, CA and requires collaboration across chip architecture, verification, validation, and test teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or possession of an advanced degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design and verification tasks for ROICs and mixed-signal image-sensor ASICs.

  • Design, develop, and verify read-out ICs (ROICs) for visible and infrared focal plane arrays.
  • Architect and define module interfaces, logic design, and system-level simulation for mixed-signal designs.
  • Design analog signal chains, digital timing/image-processing blocks, and low-power 12–14 bit on-chip ADCs.
  • Evaluate and influence the flow from design through synthesis, place-and-route, timing, and power optimization.
  • Support integration activities including fabrication, packaging, test development, debugging, and failure analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure verification and validation of designs.

Requirements

Core technical and eligibility requirements for candidates.

  • Experience with CMOS IC design at the transistor level and familiarity with IC design flows and toolchains.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence and/or Mentor Graphics (Siemens) tool suites.
  • Experience with analysis and programming tools such as MATLAB and scripting/programming in Python.
  • Practical experience designing or simulating analog signal chains, mixed-signal blocks, or ADCs is expected.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this role.
  • Position is onsite in Goleta, CA; ability to work primarily on-site is required.
  • Security clearance: Not required for this position.
  • Nice-to-have: ROIC architecture experience, UNIX-based simulation tools, SystemVerilog/Verilog-AMS modeling, semiconductor device physics, hand layout skills, and advanced degrees in related STEM fields.

Education Requirements

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field. Preferred fields include Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
