Job Title
Mixed-Signal Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Mixed-Signal Design Engineer will design and develop mixed-signal integrated circuits (ADCs, DACs, PLLs, power management blocks) and support their verification and lab characterization. The role works within an IC design team and collaborates with digital, validation, and test engineering teams to deliver robust semiconductor solutions.
Position is based in Ireland (Limerick or Cork) and requires periodic travel for validation and cross-site collaboration (approximately 10%).
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires around 2+ years of relevant mixed-signal design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, verification, integration, and test of mixed-signal IC building blocks and supporting silicon validation.
- Design and develop mixed-signal ICs (power management, ADCs, DACs, PLLs) under moderate guidance.
- Create schematics and perform circuit verification and lab characterization to verify specifications.
- Perform simulations and analyses for performance, noise, timing, and power optimization.
- Integrate analog and digital IP and ensure robust operation across target conditions.
- Develop and execute block-level and system-level test plans; support silicon bring-up and validation.
- Document designs, specifications, and test results; communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Collaborate with layout, test, and system teams to resolve design and validation issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and behaviors for effective performance in this role.
- Practical mixed-signal IC design skills and experience applying fundamental analog and digital techniques.
- Understanding of CMOS process device characteristics and circuit implementation considerations.
- Knowledge of ADC and DAC architectures and data-converter design principles.
- Experience with circuit simulation and modeling tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, and Cadence tools.
- Proficiency with EDA tools (Cadence, Synopsys) for schematic entry and verification.
- Hands-on lab testing and characterization experience using standard test equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team, and clear technical communication.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with PLL design, power-management ICs, or silicon validation at the system level.
- Prior involvement in integration of analog and digital IP or mixed-signal system verification.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience in mixed-signal IC design may be acceptable. The role typically expects ~2+ years of relevant design experience.
