CACI InternationalJob Title
Mid to Senior Systems/Hardware Engineer (VHDL)
Role Summary
Systems and hardware engineer supporting FPGA development and VHDL/Verilog-based design and verification for defense systems in the Fort Meade, MD area. Primary tasks include requirements management, architecture definition, verification planning, and cross-discipline coordination within DoD-aligned architectures.
Work directly on system lifecycle activities β requirements derivation, interface control, design reviews, and test/verification β to deliver production-compatible systems.
Experience Level
Mid to Senior β minimum 5+ years of industry experience; TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include systems engineering across requirements, architecture, verification, and configuration management. Key duties:
- Manage system and derived requirements and allocate them to hardware, software, facilities, and personnel.
- Develop system engineering documentation (System Engineering Plans, Requirements Specifications, Interface Control Documents).
- Participate in Integrated Product Teams, design reviews, program reviews, and Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings; resolve cross-discipline action items.
- Generate alternative system concepts and physical architectures; allocate real-time process and error budgets to subsystems.
- Define verification methods and evaluation criteria; develop test and verification plans and ensure work products meet requirements.
- Derive lower-level requirements from higher-level allocations and ensure requirements are complete, unambiguous, realizable, and verifiable.
- Develop derived requirements for Information Assurance (confidentiality, integrity, availability) and basic IA/security mechanisms.
- Support interface definition, configuration changes, and lifecycle coordination between affected groups.
Requirements
Must-have skills, clearance, and experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in systems/hardware engineering.
- Current Top Secret / Secure Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with Polygraph.
- Experience with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
- Proficiency with ModelSim for VHDL or Verilog coding and simulation.
- Experience with Xilinx toolchain and FPGA development workflows.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with software languages such as Java, C, C++, or Ruby on Rails.
- Experience with operating systems: Unix, Linux, Windows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline β or equivalent related experience.
