Job Title
Microphone Module Engineer
Role Summary
Join Apple's Acoustics team to model, analyze, and develop microphone sensor and actuator technologies for consumer products. The role focuses on MEMS-based microphone modules, multiphysics modeling, prototype design, and cross-functional problem solving to improve sound quality across Apple devices.
Experience Level
Mid-level engineering role. No explicit years-of-experience stated; requires proven technical experience in FEA and MEMS engineering.
Responsibilities
You will develop and validate microphone module technologies from concept to product integration and support cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Model and analyze sensors and actuators using lumped-element and finite element methods.
- Scope new MEMS technologies and create proof-of-concept designs and test structures.
- Perform multiphysics simulations (structural, acoustics, thermal, electromagnetic) and validate models.
- Design experiments, analyze data, and assess manufacturability of designs.
- Interact with suppliers and subcontractors; diagnose issues and drive to root cause.
- Present technical status, risks, and mitigation strategies to multi-disciplinary teams.
- Support transfer of validated technologies into product development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience applying advanced finite element analysis (FEA) for high-volume consumer electronics or modules.
- Direct experience with MEMS technologies and transducer characterization and debugging (sensors or actuators).
- Hands-on experience with ANSYS or COMSOL.
- Deep understanding of multiphysics modeling as applied to mobile devices (linear and non-linear structural analysis, thermoviscous acoustics, electronics, RF, heat transfer, magnetics).
- Experience with electrostatic and piezoelectric transducers.
- Experience developing simplified models (lumped-element) and using tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, or Verilog to validate concepts.
- Experience designing experiments and analyzing data using JMP, MATLAB, or scripting.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor and MEMS materials and packaging.
- International travel approximately 10β15%.
- Nice-to-have: experience modeling MEMS-package interactions.
Education Requirements
Most engineers in this role have advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
