Microelectronics R&D Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Electronic Systems and Cyber Technologies Group to perform microelectronics research and hardware-security-focused design and testing. The role emphasizes identifying hardware vulnerabilities (including side-channel attacks and anti-tamper techniques), PCB design and testing, analog circuit simulation, and FPGA prototyping as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The position requires strong analytical, debugging, documentation, and collaboration skills for work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include research, hardware design, prototyping, testing, and documentation.
- Research microelectronic trends and investigate hardware vulnerabilities, including hardware exploitation and side-channel analysis.
- Design, prototype, and test printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Design and simulate analog circuits and perform SPICE simulations.
- Implement and prototype designs on FPGAs and develop/maintain test benches.
- Create and maintain test environments and development-board setups for validation.
- Debug and troubleshoot hardware and embedded systems; perform signal and data analysis.
- Document designs, test plans, and results; coordinate with local and distributed team members.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and core technical skills; preferred items noted.
- Must have: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
- Must have: Detail-oriented with strong organization and documentation practices.
- Must have: Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting abilities; efficient problem-solving.
- Must have: Self-motivated and able to work effectively on both local and distributed teams.
- Technical core: Practical experience designing/testing PCBs, analog circuit design and simulation, and FPGA prototyping.
- Nice to have: Hardware design languages (Verilog/VHDL/SystemVerilog), C/C++, embedded development (Linux drivers or bare-metal) and JTAG debugging, hardware security and cryptography experience, Python, signal processing/data analysis.
- Preferred tools: FPGA toolchains (Quartus, Vivado), LTSpice/Spectre, Altium/Allegro, MS Office.
Education Requirements
Required: MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Preferred: PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
