Microelectronics R&D Engineer
Radiance TechnologiesJob Title
Microelectronics R&D Engineer
Role Summary
Design and evaluate microelectronic hardware with emphasis on hardware security, testing, and prototyping. Work within a multidisciplinary Electronic Systems and Cyber Technologies team to research hardware vulnerabilities, perform hardware exploitation and side-channel analysis, and develop anti-tamper techniques.
Responsible for PCB design and testing, analog circuit simulation, FPGA prototyping, and delivering documented results in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Candidates with a Master’s degree in a relevant field or candidates with approximately 2+ years of hardware engineering experience (the posting allows two years of hardware engineering experience to substitute for a Master’s) are appropriate.
Responsibilities
Core duties include hands-on design, analysis, testing, and documentation of microelectronic hardware and security evaluations.
- Research microelectronic trends and identify hardware vulnerabilities, including side-channel and tamper attacks.
- Design, prototype, and test printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Design and simulate analog and mixed-signal circuits using SPICE or similar tools.
- Develop and prototype designs on FPGAs; use FPGA toolchains for implementation and verification.
- Develop embedded software and device drivers for Linux or bare-metal platforms; debug via JTAG.
- Create and maintain test environments in simulation and on development boards; perform signal processing and data analysis.
- Conduct hardware security evaluations, including cryptographic component testing and exploitation analysis.
- Document designs, test plans, and results; collaborate with distributed and local team members.
Requirements
Essential qualifications and attributes for immediate consideration are listed below.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation and work-organization skills.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively on both local and distributed teams.
- Ability to evaluate and solve technical problems efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-have technical skills and tools:
- Hardware description languages: Verilog, VHDL, SystemVerilog.
- FPGA tool experience: Quartus, Vivado.
- PCB design tools: Altium, Allegro.
- C/C++ and Python programming; embedded development and driver experience.
- Circuit simulation tools: LTSpice, Spectre; SPICE experience.
- Experience with hardware security, cryptographic algorithms, side-channel analysis, and test environment creation.
- Familiarity with MS Office for documentation and reporting.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is listed as the standard requirement. The posting allows two years of hardware engineering experience to substitute for the Master’s degree. Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering is listed as desirable. Fields mentioned: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and related technical fields.
