Metrology Engineer

Role Summary

Work in semiconductor packaging and assembly research to develop metrology solutions that support process development, health monitoring, prototype devices, and production-readiness. The role involves designing measurement approaches, executing data collection plans, and collaborating with module, yield, operations, and integration teams.

Position sits within Intel Foundry technology teams focused on assembly, packaging, and platform technologies for semiconductor manufacturing.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Typical expectation: 1+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 0 years with a Master's degree.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing metrology methods, building prototypes, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to collect and analyze measurement data.

  • Design and develop prototypes to demonstrate proof-of-concept devices, packages, and interconnects.
  • Establish etest methodologies, metrics, and acceptance criteria tied to application specifications.
  • Provide metrology solutions across production modules (lithography, plating, laser, etch, systems).
  • Quantify trade-offs between sampling volume, resolution, and data-collection time; propose approaches to meet performance targets.
  • Plan, set up, and execute data-collection activities with module, yield, operations, and integration teams.
  • Develop and validate measurement methodologies for packaging process development and health monitoring.
  • Manage vendor engagements supporting substrate manufacturing and related process flows.
  • Document results and produce technical reports to communicate findings and recommendations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, plus several preferred competencies.

  • Must-have: Proficiency with semiconductor fabrication and packaging processes (lithography, etch, plating, via formation); strong skills in statistics and data analytics; experience producing technical documentation and reports; familiarity with etest methodologies and RF/DC testing; ability to plan and execute measurement/data collection; strong problem-solving and effective cross-functional communication.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in Measurement Systems Analysis; experience with group problem-solving and process-improvement initiatives; demonstrated disciplined execution focused on performance and innovation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BS) in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline is required. Typical experience expectation is 1+ years with a Bachelor's degree or 0 years with a Master's degree. Master's degree in a related field is a plus.
