Job Title

Metrology Engineer

Role Summary

Perform metrology research and development to support semiconductor packaging and process development within Intel Foundry. The role develops measurement methods, prototypes, and metrology solutions across packaging process modules (e.g., lithography, plating, etch, laser, vias) to enable volume production and device miniaturization.

This position works with module, yield, operations, integration teams and vendors to plan data collection, validate methodologies, and translate results into production-ready approaches.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience guidance from the posting: 4+ years with a Bachelor's degree or 3+ years with a Master's degree.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include research, measurement method development, and cross-functional execution.

  • Design and build prototypes to demonstrate metrology concepts for devices, packages, and interconnects.
  • Establish etest methodologies, metrics, and acceptance criteria based on application requirements.
  • Provide metrology solutions across production modules (lithography, plating, laser, etch, via formation).
  • Quantify trade-offs between measurement volume, resolution, and acquisition time; propose practical solutions.
  • Plan, set up, and execute data collection with module, yield, operations, and integration teams.
  • Develop and validate methodologies for packaging process development and health monitoring.
  • Manage vendor engagements supporting R&D and substrate manufacturing process flow.
  • Document technical results and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Minimum technical skills and qualities required; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Proficiency with semiconductor fabrication and packaging processes, including lithography, etch, plating, and via formation.
  • Strong skills in statistics and data analytics for measurement interpretation.
  • Experience producing technical documentation and structured reporting.
  • Understanding of RF testing, DC testing, and etest methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving, creativity in solution development, and effective cross-functional communication.
  • Ability to work with vendors and manage technical engagements.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in Measurement Systems Analysis.
  • Experience with group problem-solving and process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated disciplined execution focused on performance and innovation.

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's (BS) or Master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline. Experience guidance from the posting: 4+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years with a Master's degree. (The position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.)
