Job Title
Memory Validation Manager
Role Summary
Lead validation and qualification efforts for PC memory modules and storage devices across PC and IoT platforms. Manage validation strategy, debugging, performance characterization, automation, and cross-functional coordination to ensure reliability and interoperability of DRAM and storage subsystems.
Experience Level
Senior β requires extensive experience; the posting specifies 10+ years in hardware validation, preferably in memory and storage subsystems.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing validation activities, debugging system-level failures, and leading contractor engineers.
- Lead validation for memory modules (DIMM, SO-DIMM, LPDDR, LPCAMM2) and storage devices (NVMe, M.2 UFS, SD express SSDs).
- Develop and execute electrical, functional, thermal, stress/endurance, and performance test plans.
- Perform compatibility testing across chipsets, CPU platforms, BIOS/UEFI versions, and OSes.
- Investigate boot failures, data corruption, performance regressions, and interoperability issues; perform root-cause analysis using lab instruments.
- Analyze memory bandwidth, latency, and storage throughput/IOPS; recommend firmware, driver, BIOS, and hardware tuning.
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and validation scripts; integrate tests into continuous validation pipelines.
- Ensure compliance with JEDEC, PCIe, NVMe, and M.2 UFS/SD express specifications and support platform qualification efforts.
- Collaborate with silicon vendors, OEM/ODM partners, system architects, firmware engineers, and product managers.
- Manage, supervise, and evaluate multiple contractor engineers; conduct performance reviews for contract renewal decisions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted where applicable.
- 10+ years of hardware validation experience focused on memory and storage subsystems.
- Deep knowledge of DDR4/DDR5/LPDDR/LPCAMM2 memory architectures and PCIe/NVMe/M.2 UFS/SD express protocols.
- Experience with BIOS/UEFI and platform bring-up, firmware and driver interactions.
- Hands-on debugging with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers; experience isolating signal integrity and interface issues.
- Experience with validation and benchmarking tools (examples: MemTest, Iometer, FIO, vendor tools) and performance analysis.
- Scripting or programming skills (Python, PowerShell, C/C++ or similar) for automation and tool development.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage contractors.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with power management, thermals, signal integrity concepts, data analytics/ML for validation, and experience with OEM/ODM platforms.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is specified.
