Job Title

Memory Systems Firmware Development Engineer

Role Summary

Develop firmware for memory subsystem initialization, training, calibration, and validation to ensure performance and reliability across modern memory technologies. Work on a multidisciplinary engineering team collaborating with digital and analog architects, RTL designers, and verification engineers to integrate firmware with hardware design and verification flows.

Position follows a hybrid work model with time split between on-site and off-site work at the assigned Intel site.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Candidate experience expectations vary by degree: PhD holders typically 2+ years, Master's 3+ years, Bachelor's 4+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include firmware design, verification, and cross-team collaboration to support memory subsystem functionality and compliance.

  • Design firmware interfaces and abstractions that map low-level hardware to firmware layers.
  • Gather system requirements, define architecture, and perform code reviews for quality and compliance.
  • Implement firmware for memory initialization, training, and calibration algorithms.
  • Validate and debug firmware on simulation models and analyze timing and functionality.
  • Root-cause issues in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments to improve system reliability.
  • Ensure adherence to JEDEC standards and memory design specifications.
  • Collaborate with digital and analog architects and RTL teams to optimize verification and integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and constraints for initial consideration; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in C, C++, or Python for firmware development and debugging.
  • Must-have: Experience with firmware development, debugging, and validation processes (pre- or post-silicon).
  • Must-have: Knowledge of computer architecture principles and memory subsystem design.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with source control and code review workflows (e.g., Git/GitHub).
  • Constraint: This position is not eligible for Intel immigration sponsorship.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with BIOS EDK2 interfaces and JEDEC memory specifications.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with machine learning concepts, strong analytical and cross-team communication skills.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience requirements depend on degree: Bachelor's +4 years, Master's +3 years, PhD +2 years. The posting allows equivalent combinations of education, coursework, projects, research, internships, and relevant job experience to meet the experience expectations.
