Memory Firmware Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Memory Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain firmware that initializes, trains, calibrates, and validates memory subsystems for Intel platforms. Work with architecture, RTL design, validation, and silicon engineering teams to ensure memory operates reliably and efficiently.
This position is on a hybrid team focused on firmware at the hardware/software boundary; it is suitable for an early-career engineer building expertise in embedded firmware and memory technologies.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career. See Education Requirements for degree and experience combinations that meet minimum qualifications.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware development, integration, and validation for memory subsystems.
- Develop and enhance firmware for memory subsystem initialization, training, calibration, and configuration.
- Design firmware interfaces between hardware and software components.
- Integrate firmware into simulation and silicon validation environments; participate in code reviews and testing.
- Debug firmware issues in pre-silicon and post-silicon environments and support hardware debugging efforts.
- Collaborate with architecture, RTL design, verification, and validation teams to meet subsystem requirements.
- Support compliance with JEDEC standards and analyze system behavior to improve performance and stability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (education criteria are listed under Education Requirements).
- Proficient programming in C and/or C++.
- Basic understanding of computer architecture, embedded systems, or low-level software development.
- Experience with firmware debugging, software testing, or simulation methodologies.
- Demonstrated analytical problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective team communication.
Nice-to-have (preferred):
- Exposure to memory technologies such as DDR, LPDDR, HBM and familiarity with memory controllers or training concepts.
- Experience in silicon/firmware validation, hardware debugging, or use of emulation and simulation tools.
- Knowledge of JEDEC standards and related memory subsystem requirements.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline plus 2+ years relevant experience; OR Master's degree in a related technical field with internship/research/project experience (3+ months) or equivalent practical experience. The posting accepts equivalent practical experience in lieu of formal degrees.
