Job Title

Memory Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop advanced memory circuits (SRAMs, caches, multi-ported register files, ROMs, custom memories) and associated digital circuitry for high-performance CPU and SoC products.

Work on the CPU Circuit Technology team collaborating with architects, process technology, physical design, and product engineering to optimize power, performance, area (PPA) and scalability on advanced CMOS nodes.

Experience Level

Mid-level. See Education Requirements for degree-specific experience ranges.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include delivering memory circuit IP and methodologies from concept through implementation.

  • Design, characterize and simulate full-custom and compiler-based SRAMs, caches, register files, ROMs and custom memories.
  • Perform cache design, critical-path analysis and custom block design.
  • Drive memory path-finding and PPA optimization (power, performance, area).
  • Design memory bit-cells, periphery IC circuits and automation for memory arrays.
  • Develop and validate memory array/IP and pursue circuit-level innovation.
  • Define and implement methodology and meet project schedules and milestones.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (architecture, process, physical design, product engineering).

Requirements

Minimum technical must-haves and additional preferred skills.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in CMOS circuit design and memory circuit design with strong understanding of PPA trade-offs.
  • Must-have: Expertise in VLSI circuits and common design methodologies; experience with circuit characterization and simulation flows.
  • Must-have: Experience with cache design, critical-path analysis, and memory array/IP design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ownership mindset and ability to deliver against schedules.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Low-power implementation techniques, familiarity with circuit/layout trade-offs, and experience with industry-standard digital design tools, variation analysis, and signal integrity analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a STEM-related field with 6+ years of relevant experience; or Master's in the same fields with 4+ years; or PhD in the same fields with 2+ years of relevant educational or work experience. Educational experience may be satisfied via a combination of industry experience, internships, coursework or research. Related technical fields and equivalent practical experience are acceptable.
