Member of Technical Staff — AI-Optimized Memory Digital Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join Micron’s AI‑Optimized Memory Architecture team to translate memory architecture into silicon‑proven hardware. The role focuses on designing high‑performance memory subsystems for AI workloads and collaborating across architecture, verification, and implementation teams.

Locations: Folsom, CA and Richardson, TX. Full‑time position working on SoC‑level memory architectures and implementation tradeoffs.

Experience Level

Senior; preferred 5+ years industry experience delivering silicon‑proven memory systems or SoC hardware designs. Equivalent practical experience considered.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include translating architecture into implementable microarchitectures and driving RTL implementation through silicon.

  • Translate architecture requirements into scalable microarchitectures and lead implementation from concept to silicon.
  • Design, implement, and review SystemVerilog RTL for advanced memory system architectures.
  • Perform synthesis and early PPA (power, performance, area) analysis to optimize area, power, and timing.
  • Develop and maintain microarchitecture documentation to align design intent across teams.
  • Evaluate architectural and implementation tradeoffs to support technical decision‑making.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • Proven digital design and microarchitecture experience with ownership of hardware blocks from specification through implementation.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture and memory system behaviors and tradeoffs at the SoC level.
  • Experience with synthesis flows and early PPA estimation and optimization.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, C++, or Python for tooling and firmware interaction.
  • Ability to produce clear microarchitecture documentation and collaborate across cross‑functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with memory interfaces, reliability features, and media management concepts.
  • Nice-to-have: experience influencing architecture features and experience with agentic AI tools to assist design and verification.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field required. Preferred: Master’s or PhD in those fields or equivalent practical experience.
