Mechanical Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Internship supporting mechanical design and thermal/structural analysis for RF and defense product lines within Qorvo's High Performance Analog business group. Projects vary by business need and focus on electronics packaging, thermal characterization, and manufacturable mechanical design.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current college students (undergraduate or graduate).

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities during the internship may include:

  • Design electronics packaging components and model product assemblies in 3D CAD.
  • Sourcing and specifying custom mechanical hardware for prototypes and production.
  • Collaborating with electrical engineers to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.
  • Performing thermal analysis (thermal FEA) and thermal characterization (e.g., infrared thermography).
  • Conducting structural FEA to evaluate stresses and manufacturability.
  • Improving simulation/modeling processes to increase design workflow efficiency.

  • Proven communication skills: strong written and verbal communication, organization, and attention to detail.
  • 3D CAD experience; SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Introductory programming coursework or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with FEA or CFD tools and workflows (thermal or structural analysis).
  • Familiarity with thermal characterization techniques (for example, infrared thermography).
  • Ability to work collaboratively across electrical and mechanical teams.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (position is not eligible for visa sponsorship).

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program (internship target). Prefer students pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Relevant coursework includes heat & mass transfer, statics, mechanics of materials; prior coursework or study in related engineering fields is acceptable.
