Role Summary

Work on AMD's Advanced Packaging team to develop mechanical designs for semiconductor packages and cooling solutions, collaborating with packaging architects, suppliers, and manufacturing partners from concept through production.

Highly cross-functional role emphasizing manufacturability, thermo-mechanical integration, and supplier engagement. Note: this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include mechanical design, validation, and supplier collaboration for advanced packaging projects.

  • Develop CAD models, perform tolerance analysis, fit checks, and lead DFM reviews.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to define and implement manufacturable designs.
  • Review mechanical designs, drawings, simulations, and engineering changes for quality and manufacturability.
  • Support thermo-mechanical modeling and package integration using tools such as Creo and ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Contribute to chip, package, board, and system-level integration efforts.
  • Support development of next-generation packaging, cooling, and materials technologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Hands-on semiconductor packaging experience supporting ASIC, SoC, FPGA, CPU, GPU, AI, or HPC products.
  • Mechanical design expertise: CAD modeling, GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM, and design review processes.
  • Experience with thermo-mechanical modeling (ANSYS Mechanical or similar).
  • Understanding of chip-package interaction, package-board interaction, and package integration.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, or packaging development partners.
  • Knowledge of advanced packaging technologies and manufacturing processes.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with advanced cooling solutions, thermal technologies, or emerging packaging materials.

Education Requirements

MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related technical field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
