Role Summary

Design, iterate on, and build specialized equipment and subsystems for semiconductor fabrication, with a focus on packaging, vacuum, positioning, or automation tooling. Own end-to-end mechanical design and system integration from concept through tested hardware.

This role involves access to technology subject to U.S. export controls; any offer will be contingent on compliance.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Recommended 2–7 years of professional experience in mechanical and electromechanical system design and hands-on prototyping.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include design, prototyping, integration, and vendor collaboration to deliver production-ready equipment.

  • Design and iterate machines and subsystems for semiconductor packaging fabrication.
  • Create mechanical designs including frames, components, and assemblies.
  • Integrate mechanical, electrical, and optical components; perform wiring and optics alignment.
  • Build, prototype, assemble, and debug complex systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve fabrication processes and equipment.
  • Source components and coordinate with vendors to meet project specifications.
  • Document designs, tests, and assembly procedures.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for immediate contribution; applicants should include a portfolio of built projects.

  • 2–7 years professional experience in mechanical/electromechanical system design.
  • 2–7 years hands-on experience building, prototyping, and assembling complex systems.
  • Proven mechanical integration and system-level troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with vendor sourcing and component procurement.
  • Ability to iterate quickly and deliver tested hardware on short timelines.
  • Portfolio demonstrating hands-on engineering work is required.
  • Comfort working in both R&D and production environments and collaborating across disciplines.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with laser machines and opto-mechanical system design.
  • Circuit design skills for custom control systems; basic coding for equipment control.
  • Home workshop/lab experience showing hands-on initiative.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or Physics. A Master’s degree is preferred.
