Role Summary

Design and validate mechanical solutions for silicon photonic engines and advanced networking switch hardware. Work on opto-electronic packaging and mechanical subsystems for next-generation optical systems, collaborating with optical, process, electronic, IC and application engineers.

Experience Level

Senior-level — requires at least 8 years of relevant experience in opto-mechanical design.

Responsibilities

Key day-to-day activities include simulation, design, analysis, and hands-on test/validation to support product development.

• Perform thermal simulations to determine thermal resistance, power dissipation, and mechanical stress across temperature ranges.
• Use tools such as Flotherm and Ansys to model and optimize complex electronic and opto-mechanical assemblies.
• Prepare simulation reports and document findings from failure analysis.
• Develop new products: concept execution, detailed design, drawings, vendor selection, part evaluation, and product builds.
• Generate designs and perform tolerance analysis for opto-mechanical structures.
• Conduct failure analysis, design of experiments (DOE), and DFMEA activities.
• Troubleshoot interoperability issues; perform hands-on lab experimentation and dimensional metrology.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

• Minimum 8 years of experience in opto-mechanical design.
• Proficient in mechanical CAD; SolidWorks preferred.
• Experienced with thermal simulation tools (Flotherm, Ansys) and using results to drive mechanical design.
• Experience designing sheet metal, castings, and injection-molded parts; material and vendor selection; first article assessment.
• Skilled in tolerance analysis and mechanical integration of optical components.
• Experience with failure analysis and design of experiments.
• Strong written and oral communication; ability to work in cross-functional, geographically distributed teams.
• Ability to prioritize dynamically and work independently.

Education Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
