MCU System Architect (2)
Role Summary
Design and define system-level architecture for next-generation microcontroller (MCU) products, including CPU, memory, bus, peripherals, power/clock and security features. Lead cross-functional coordination from product concept through to mass production with hardware, software and product planning teams.
This role drives technical trade-offs to optimize performance, power, cost and manufacturability for embedded markets (industrial, consumer, automotive).
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires around 5+ years of practical experience in semiconductor product development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Define MCU product specifications and overall system configuration based on market and customer requirements.
- Architect CPU, memory, buses, analog and communication peripherals, security and power/clock systems for MCUs.
- Perform trade-off analyses considering performance, power consumption, die area and manufacturing cost.
- Evaluate and specify new peripheral features and system-level functionality.
- Collaborate with semiconductor design engineers, embedded software teams and product planners to drive development.
- Conduct technical reviews and make architecture-level decisions during development projects.
- Contribute to future MCU platform and product roadmap planning.
Requirements
Essential and desirable qualifications for the role.
Must-have:
- Practical experience in semiconductor product development (MCU, SoC or ASIC), approximately 5+ years.
- Experience in at least one of: digital circuit design, embedded software development, or system design.
- Knowledge of embedded system architecture covering CPU, memory, bus and peripheral integration.
- Experience preparing product specifications and requirements documents.
- Track record of driving cross-functional product development projects.
Nice-to-have:
- Direct MCU or SoC system/architecture design experience and product specification work.
- Familiarity with CPU architectures such as ARM or RISC-V.
- Knowledge of low-power design, functional safety and security features.
- Experience with common interfaces: CAN, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C, etc.
- Ability to analyze technical issues at the system level and propose solutions.
