Job Title

Manufacturing Failure Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Join Intel's Advanced Packaging team to perform failure analysis on advanced package, platform, and board manufacturing processes. The role focuses on identifying root causes, defining analysis strategies, and driving corrective actions to improve quality, yield, and reliability.

Work closely with cross-functional teams and external laboratories to support technology transfers, manufacturing startups, automation, and process improvements.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typically requires several years of relevant manufacturing failure analysis experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include executing failure analysis, defining strategies, and communicating corrective actions.

  • Perform root-cause failure analysis of manufacturing processes, products, and technologies.
  • Define failure analysis strategies and execute lab evaluations of electrical and mechanical characteristics.
  • Develop and implement electrical, analytical, and mechanical methodologies to support failure analysis capabilities.
  • Investigate material-device interactions to determine fundamental failure mechanisms.
  • Recommend corrective actions and disseminate learnings across sites.
  • Support new technology/product transfers, manufacturing startups, automation, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and third-party laboratories for special investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best-known methods (BKMs).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Hands-on experience with failure analysis techniques: defect detection, failure modes analysis, and fault isolation.
  • Proficiency with electrical, analytical, and mechanical failure-analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with analytical instruments such as SEM, FTIR, and X-ray, or willingness to undergo training.
  • Fundamental understanding of statistical analysis as applied to manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and coordinate with external partners.

Preferred:

  • Experience driving process improvements and innovations in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience working with third-party laboratories and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform in a results-driven environment.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's (BS) in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field is listed. Experience guidance in the posting: typically 3+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 2+ years with a Master’s degree, or 0 years with a PhD. "Related field" and equivalent practical experience are indicated.
