Manufacturing Equipment Engineering Manager (Test)
Role Summary
Lead a team of engineers and technicians responsible for test equipment operations, maintenance, repair and performance optimization at the Penang manufacturing facility. Ensure safety, quality, uptime and throughput while resolving operational issues and developing the team's technical skills.
Experience Level
Senior-level manager. Typically requires 3+ years in manufacturing operations or equipment management; candidates with advanced qualifications may qualify with reduced experience. Minimum 3 years of hands-on equipment maintenance/repair experience is expected.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include managing personnel, sustaining equipment performance, and maintaining production readiness.
- Own and support test manufacturing equipment: troubleshooting, repair, qualification, and performance optimization to ensure stable operations and throughput.
- Lead quality containment and excursion management: defect verification, early quality signal response, lot/hardware containment, disposition support, and corrective actions.
- Perform hands-on machine repair and sustainment as an equipment engineer when required.
- Lead, coach and manage a team of technicians; establish and implement training and certification plans to meet production ramp requirements.
- Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining safety and quality standards; act as first responder for operational, safety, and security issues.
- Supervise shift schedules, workstation assignments, rotations, and PTO to ensure optimal staffing coverage.
- Develop and execute tactical plans to streamline workflows and improve coordination between groups and divisions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to address factory health challenges and operational issues.
- Drive team results through goal setting, performance management, and leadership development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and leadership capabilities.
- Minimum 3 years of equipment maintenance/repair experience.
- Proficiency in equipment monitoring, scheduling, and maintenance practices.
- Experience in manufacturing quality assurance processes and good manufacturing practices.
- Knowledge of operational safety standards and demonstrated ability to respond to safety and security incidents.
- Ability to develop training plans and manage team certifications.
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing diverse manufacturing teams; strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with troubleshooting, qualification activities, and production performance optimization.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with excursion management, process optimization strategies, and test-operation equipment knowledge.
Education Requirements
