Job Title

Manufacturing Design Engineer (Optics)

Role Summary

Responsible for defining and managing optical alignment equipment, alignment methodology, and integration processes for optical wafer inspection tools. Works within the manufacturing/design team to improve yield, reliability, and predictability of optical subsystem integration.

Primary activities include integration and troubleshooting of optical systems, supplier interaction for component quality, and driving manufacturing procedure development and process improvements.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects demonstrated experience in optical systems integration, assembly/alignment/calibration, and leading or mentoring technicians; leadership on manufacturing projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage optical alignment equipment and establish alignment methodologies for next-generation optical wafer inspection tools.
  • Define and refine manufacturing procedures for assembly, alignment, calibration, and testing of optical subsystems.
  • Participate in integration and troubleshooting of manufacturing issues affecting optical systems and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve component and part quality problems and support supplier quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support Quality and Purchasing in driving supplier quality improvements and cost reductions.
  • Lead or coordinate cross-functional project activities and mentor team members during manufacturing ramp and sustain phases.
  • Travel internationally as required (approximately 25%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Hands-on experience with assembly, alignment, calibration, system integration, and testing of opto-mechanical subsystems.
  • Working knowledge of optical test and metrology equipment such as interferometers, autocollimators, alignment telescopes, and spectrometers.
  • Experience developing manufacturing procedures and leading teams through assembling, aligning, calibrating, and testing optical systems.
  • Strong project management, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-driven, technically curious, positive attitude, and effective team player.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (~25%).

Education Requirements

Degree in Physics or Optics: Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Physics or Optics is specified in the posting (Bachelor/Master's/Ph.D). Relevant work experience in optical systems integration and manufacturing is expected.
