Role Summary

The Software Engineering Manager, Korea leads Onto's Korea-based software support team for semiconductor inspection equipment. The role manages sustaining engineering, technical support, customer-facing software delivery, escalations, and cross-site coordination for Korea accounts.

The manager provides technical direction, owns critical escalations, coordinates rotational support across sites, and ensures disciplined sustaining practices for complex hardware-integrated systems.

Responsibilities

Lead and operate the Korea software support function with ownership for technical delivery and escalations.

• Lead, mentor, and grow the Korea-based sustaining/support engineering team; manage workload and career development.
• Own escalation management for critical Service Requests and Work Items; act as primary in-region contact for customer software issues and tool downtime.
• Coordinate rotational support from other sites (e.g., Tianjin) to manage peak issue volume and ensure knowledge transfer and consistent direction.
• Partner with global software leadership, applications engineers, and account teams on Customer Action Plans, release priorities, and field response.
• Drive defect management, code quality, root-cause analysis, release governance, and change control for sustaining releases.
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for complex software and system-integration issues with major Korea customers.
• Develop staffing plans and capability roadmaps aligned to installed-base growth and business priorities.
• Report program status, risks, escalation trends, and resourcing needs to cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years professional software engineering experience, including instrument-control, automation, or hardware-integrated software systems.
• 3+ years engineering management or technical lead experience in sustaining support and customer escalation management.
• Demonstrated experience supporting software for semiconductor capital equipment, industrial automation, scientific instrumentation, robotics, metrology, inspection, or similar cyber-physical systems.
• Strong understanding of sustaining engineering: defect triage, root-cause analysis, code/design review, release governance, and change control.
• Experience coordinating execution across multiple sites and time zones; ability to manage rotating resources and handoffs.
• Fluency in English for communication and stakeholder management; must be based in Korea and able to work directly with account teams.
• Preferred technical skills: C#, .NET, image processing/machine vision, hardware-software integration, Azure DevOps (CI/CD and work item tracking).
• Preferred domain experience: semiconductor inspection/metrology, wafer handling, recipe management, factory automation, SEMI-standard AOI tools, or field introduction of complex equipment.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: Master's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field. (No mention of equivalent-experience language was provided.)
