Manager, Security Firmware

Role Summary

Lead a security firmware engineering team responsible for ROM and firmware security features across Micron SSD products. Set technical direction, own delivery execution, and coordinate with architecture, validation, and infrastructure teams to produce certified security solutions.

Experience Level

Senior-level manager. Minimum 3+ years managing security engineering teams; experience in firmware and hardware security and embedded systems expected.

Responsibilities

Manage delivery, quality, and security of firmware/ROM features; establish processes and metrics; and drive secure development practices across teams.

  • Lead and develop a security firmware engineering team delivering ROM and firmware security features across multiple SSD platforms.
  • Plan team capacity, prioritize work, manage cross-functional dependencies, and ensure timelines and code quality.
  • Define and enforce secure development practices (threat modeling, secure code review, vulnerability management, security certification).
  • Establish and track engineering processes and metrics (e.g., Agile, Jira) to identify risks and improve execution.
  • Partner with security architecture, validation, signing infrastructure, and platform teams to ensure design verification and certification readiness.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 3+ years managing security engineering teams.
  • Understanding of ROM and firmware development lifecycles and their security stages.
  • Expertise in firmware security, hardware security, and embedded systems architecture.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to align priorities across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Security Development Lifecycle activities (threat modeling, secure code reviews, vulnerability management).

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on technical leadership (code reviews, architecture decisions, mentoring in secure coding).
  • Experience with validation, signing, and signing infrastructure and certification workflows.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage security standards (OCP, TCG, NVMe, PCIe, IEEE 1667, DMTF SPDM).
  • Data-driven process improvement using issue tracking and metrics.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
