Manager, Passive Components
PsiQuantumJob Title
Manager, Passive Components
Role Summary
Lead the design, optimization, integration, and validation of passive integrated photonic components and libraries for a silicon-photonic linear-optic quantum computer (LOQC). You will manage a team focused on high-performance passive devices, build simulation and automation infrastructure, and collaborate across device, hardware, and software teams.
Experience Level
Senior - requires substantial hands-on experience. The role expects ~10 years of relevant integrated-photonics work or research experience and at least 2 years of project or people management experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, device development, and cross-functional execution.
- Lead development and roadmaps for passive photonic components and circuits.
- Collaborate with device, hardware, and software teams to integrate photonic components into systems.
- Develop and maintain simulation automation, workflows, and infrastructure for photonic design and validation.
- Create and manage a photonic device library and process design kit (PDK) for passive components.
- Support foundry tapeouts: device design, design-of-experiments (DOE), layout, validation, data analysis, and failure-mode troubleshooting.
- Provide multidisciplinary technical support to component and systems teams; resolve component- and system-level issues.
- Perform quantitative root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Plan and execute cross-department complex projects to deliver tapeouts and validated designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and leadership traits required for immediate contribution.
- Minimum ~10 years of relevant integrated-photonics industry or academic research experience.
- At least 2 years of project and/or people management experience.
- Strong fundamentals in design and characterization of photonic devices and circuits, and in electromagnetic theory.
- Extensive experience with photonic simulation platforms, particularly Lumerical.
- Proficient programming skills and experience building simulation automation (Python preferred).
- Experience supporting foundry tapeouts, layout flows, and data-driven device validation.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Nice-to-have: experience with photonic optimization techniques, python-based layout tools, and prior work with foundry PDKs and tapeout processes.
Education Requirements
PhD or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related technical field; equivalent practical experience is accepted.
