Machine Learning Digital Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design Engineer focused on digital micro-architecture and RTL implementation for machine learning accelerators, SoCs, and custom silicon. The role partners with architecture, verification, physical design and system teams to deliver low-power, high-performance production silicon.
Location: Sunnyvale, CA. Compensation (United States): $146,000–$209,000 per year (base), plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
Experience Level
Mid-level — requires significant experience; minimum 6+ years of relevant hardware design experience as specified below.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include micro-architecture, RTL design, and subsystem integration for ASIC/SoC ML accelerators.
- Contribute to ASIC digital micro-architecture and detailed design.
- Perform performance and power analysis to meet targets.
- Map algorithms to hardware and specify IP and subsystem requirements.
- Collaborate with Verification, Physical Design, and Design-for-Test teams.
- Develop micro-architecture, RTL coding, and design verification for complex IP blocks.
- Drive IP and sub-system micro-architecture and RTL design in cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 6+ years experience as a Hardware Design Engineer on production silicon shipped in volume.
- Proven experience in digital micro-architecture and RTL coding for ASICs/SoCs.
- Experience performing power and performance analysis and meeting targets.
- Experience communicating technical design decisions and trade-offs to cross-functional partners (verification, physical design, architecture).
- Experience driving IP/subsystem design with verification and PD leads.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in ML accelerator subsystems and top-level design.
- SoC integration and ASIC architecture experience.
- Knowledge of microcontrollers, DSP, CDC, and power sequencing.
- Experience integrating AI tools to improve workflows and applying responsible AI practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
