Linux Software Engineer - Yocto

Role Summary

Develop and maintain Embedded Linux software and Yocto-based platforms for NXP i.MX application processors. Work with a cross-functional team to support platform integration, build automation and release processes used by customers worldwide.

Primary focus areas: Yocto BSP and recipe development, Linux distribution customization, build reproducibility, and CI/CD for build/test/release automation.

Experience Level

Mid-level — 3 to 5 years of relevant Embedded Linux experience.

Responsibilities

The role involves platform maintenance, build and release automation, and troubleshooting integration issues across Yocto and Linux kernel releases.

• Maintain and extend Yocto BSP layers and Linux distributions for NXP i.MX platforms.
• Create, integrate and maintain Yocto recipes and packages.
• Drive migration and validation for new Yocto and Linux kernel releases.
• Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve build, integration and deployment issues.
• Design, develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for build, test and release automation.
• Improve build infrastructure, reproducibility and release quality processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

• Must-have: 3–5 years working with Embedded Linux and platform integration.
• Must-have: Strong understanding of Linux system architecture, boot process, system services and userspace components.
• Must-have: Proficient in C/C++ development and experience with Makefiles.
• Must-have: Scripting skills in Python and Bash for automation and tooling.
• Must-have: Experience designing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines and debugging build/integration failures.
• Must-have: Ability to work reliably on security-related tasks and comply with security certification requirements.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with Yocto Project (BitBake, recipes, layers, BSP development).
• Nice-to-have: Experience customizing and maintaining embedded Linux distributions.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with CI systems such as Jenkins, Bamboo, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Git workflows, code review and collaborative development practices.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a similar technical discipline (degree in a related field preferred).
