Linux, OSS, and Security Software Engineer for Industrial high-end processors

Role Summary

Work on Linux-based platform software for Renesas RZ-series industrial high-end processors, focusing on device drivers, platform integration, and embedded security features. You will collaborate with internal LSI teams and external open source communities to deliver secure, production-quality software for industrial applications.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, integration, maintenance, and security of Linux and related open source software for industrial processors.

• Design and implement device drivers for new hardware.
• Design and implement hardware-backed security features (e.g., secure boot, hardware encryption).
• Develop and maintain common platform software (Linux kernel, Trusted Firmware-A, U-Boot, OP-TEE) and InnerSource deliverables.
• Integrate and evaluate open source stacks for industrial networking (for example OPC UA).
• Manage vulnerability information (CVE), define patching strategies, and implement countermeasures.
• Develop and maintain Yocto build environments and packaging for Debian/Ubuntu where required.
• Contribute patches and participate in technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders and open source communities.
• Plan and manage software maintenance, process improvements, and automation to ensure product quality.
• Research, prototype, and evaluate technologies for next-generation products.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, plus desirable additional skills.

• Must-have: ~5+ years of embedded software development with the ability to derive software control from hardware specifications and perform independent development and debugging.
• Must-have: Basic knowledge of open source licenses (GPL, MIT, BSD).
• Must-have: Strong communication skills with customers and internal/external stakeholders; motivated to work in an English-speaking environment.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with Linux kernel internals, device drivers, graphics, or video codecs.
• Nice-to-have: Yocto Project experience (recipe development, build maintenance).
• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of Arm (Cortex-A/M/R, TrustZone) or RISC-V architectures; assembly programming experience.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with ICE/debugging on development boards and contribution to open source communities.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins), virtualization/hypervisors, and security technologies (secure boot, cryptography, SELinux).

Education Requirements
