Job Title
Lead System Software Engineer Platform - Server Embedded Firmware
Role Summary
Develop and maintain microcontroller firmware and embedded management software for NVIDIA GPU server platforms. Work on firmware bring-up, debugging, performance analysis, and implementation of server manageability features in RTOS-based environments.
Join a platform team responsible for firmware that interfaces with BMCs, GPUs, switches, memory, I/O expanders, sensors, and local microcontroller peripherals.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires extensive embedded firmware experience; the posting requests 12+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, test, and maintain microcontroller firmware and embedded management features for server platforms.
- Design and implement microcontroller firmware for ARM M-class and similar MCUs.
- Develop C/C++ features in RTOS-optimized embedded environments (Zephyr/FreeRTOS).
- Perform firmware bring-up, debugging, performance analysis, and instrumentation.
- Implement register-based communication and DMTF-standard messaging between BMC, GPUs, switches, memory, I/O expanders, sensors, and MCU peripherals.
- Design a portable microcontroller framework for multiple server management subsystems; write and review code and design documents.
- Automate and run unit tests, collect code-coverage metrics, and produce software quality reports.
- Collaborate with security and hardware teams; influence hardware design and ensure alignment with security goals.
- Develop performance-optimized active monitoring BMC solutions using standards such as MCTP, Redfish, SPDM, and PLDM.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- 12+ years of low-level microcontroller firmware development on embedded MCUs using Zephyr or FreeRTOS.
- Experience developing BMC and/or microcontroller firmware for CPU, GPU, network, and storage device management.
- Experience with embedded interfaces such as USB and I3C; familiarity with ARM IDEs, debuggers, logic/protocol analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Deep understanding of interrupts, multi-threading, DMA, memory management, and resource-constrained embedded systems.
- Strong embedded programming and scripting skills (C/C++, Bash, Python, Go, or similar).
- Experience reading and using hardware schematics, reference manuals, and datasheets for embedded development.
- Expertise with server manageability protocols: MCTP, PLDM, SPDM, SMBus, and OCP recovery.
- Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals, distributions, packaging, upgrade mechanisms, and image building/deployment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
