Lead Software Test Development Engineer - NPI
Role Summary
Lead the design, development, deployment and sustaining of manufacturing test systems and test software for enterprise server, storage and networking hardware across multiple manufacturing sites and customers.
The role interfaces with hardware, manufacturing and quality teams to ensure production test solutions meet reliability and throughput requirements.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5–8 years in software roles focused on manufacturing test development or sustaining for enterprise server, storage or networking products.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, development, deployment and maintenance of production test systems and software used in server manufacturing.
- Design and implement test systems, plans, cases and scripts for validation of motherboards, memory, CPUs, storage (SSD/HDD/NVMe) and PCIe devices (NIC, GPU, mezzanine, RAID).
- Develop, validate, release and maintain automated test software for controlling equipment, collecting and analyzing data, and producing test reports.
- Support and sustain manufacturing-level test software and infrastructure (server L10 and rack L11-L12), including minor configuration updates for new product variants.
- Maintain comprehensive test procedure and infrastructure documentation for production environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, manufacturing, quality) and customers to align testing requirements and quality standards.
- Contribute to end-to-end test architecture and production deployment across multiple regions and customers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred items listed separately.
- 5–8 years' experience in software roles related to manufacturing test development or sustaining with enterprise server, storage or networking products.
- Proficient in Python and scripting (BASH); Java required; C/C++ experience is a plus.
- Strong Linux development skills (CentOS, Ubuntu) and tooling knowledge.
- Familiarity with hardware management and test APIs/tools such as IPMI, Redfish, mprime, FIO, Linpack, ptugen, memtester, iperf.
- Experience automating test equipment control, data collection and analysis; solid software engineering practices (code reviews, source control, builds, testing).
- Experience with VM creation/configuration (DHCP, PXE, nginx) using VMware and with code versioning tools (Git).
- Practical knowledge of datacenter networking (L1–L3 protocols including BGP, DHCP Relay, ECMP); Arista CloudVision is a plus.
- Experience working across multi-site, multi-cultural teams; ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with test architecture design and hyperscale customer environments.
- 10+ years in electronics manufacturing and familiarity with multiple core skills listed above.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred; Master’s in EE/CE or Computer Science preferred. Relevant practical experience or equivalent experience will be considered.
