Lead Software Engineer (Geometry)
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Lead Software Engineer (Geometry)
Role Summary
Lead individual contributor responsible for designing and delivering geometry capabilities for MSC Apex and CAE preprocessing workflows, including defeaturing, cleanup, healing, topology handling, interoperability, and solver handoff. The role combines hands-on implementation, feature-level technical leadership, and cross-team collaboration with product, QA, architecture, and program management.
Expect to mentor other engineers, drive technical decisions for geometry features, and ensure solutions are robust, performant, and maintainable.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 10+ years of software engineering experience in CAD/CAE, geometry, or related simulation domains.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include feature design, implementation, and technical leadership for geometry capabilities used in CAE model preparation and preprocessing.
- Design, develop, and deliver robust, high-performance geometry features for CAE products (defeaturing, cleanup, healing, topology repair, interoperability).
- Lead feature-level technical execution: design reviews, feasibility analysis, risk assessment, implementation planning, and delivery tracking.
- Debug complex geometry defects, interoperability issues, numerical robustness problems, and performance bottlenecks; drive timely resolutions.
- Collaborate with product management, architecture, QA, and program teams to translate customer workflows into technical solutions.
- Mentor and review work of engineers on algorithms, code quality, testing, and engineering best practices.
- Optimize geometry operations for performance, memory, scalability, and responsiveness in large assemblies and CAE models.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience for successful execution of the role. Education details are listed separately below.
- 10+ years delivering commercial or enterprise engineering software, preferably in CAD, CAE, geometry, or simulation domains.
- Strong C++ development experience for large-scale, high-performance engineering or scientific applications.
- Deep expertise in computational geometry and topology: intersection, projection, trimming, tolerance handling, curve/surface evaluation, spatial search, and proximity calculations.
- Hands-on experience with B-rep topology, geometry kernels, defeaturing, cleanup, healing, and topology repair workflows.
- Experience with CAD data translation and interoperability (STEP, IGES, Parasolid, ACIS, Open Cascade, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of CAE workflows: model preparation, meshing handoff, solver readiness, and preprocessing requirements.
- Proven ability to lead feature design and make implementation tradeoffs balancing quality, performance, maintainability, and delivery.
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting design and code reviews, and coordinating technical work without direct people-management responsibility.
- Familiarity with build systems, debugging and profiling tools, automation, and engineering productivity practices.
- Strong debugging and diagnostic skills for numerical precision and geometric robustness issues.
- Nice-to-have: Python or other scripting experience for automation, diagnostics, and workflow prototyping.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Geometry, Computer-Aided Design, Computer-Aided Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
