Lead Physical Design Engineer
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
Lead Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join NXP's VLSI physical design team in Pune to implement and sign off complex SoC/IP blocks in advanced process nodes. Deliver high-quality tapeouts that meet power, performance, area (PPA) and reliability targets.
The role requires cross-functional collaboration with RTL, STA, DFT, packaging and integration teams and contribution to methodology and automation improvements.
Experience Level
Senior — 8 to 10 years of ASIC physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end block and chip physical implementation and signoff.
- Execute physical design flow from synthesized netlist to GDSII.
- Floorplanning and power grid architecture.
- Placement and optimization to meet timing and congestion targets.
- Clock tree synthesis (CTS) and clock balancing.
- Routing, post-route optimization and congestion resolution.
- Drive timing convergence across MCMM scenarios in collaboration with STA.
- Ensure signoff: setup/hold closure, DRC/LVS clean, IR drop and EM compliance.
- Debug and resolve congestion, SI/crosstalk issues, and functional/physical ECOs.
- Collaborate with RTL, DFT, packaging and full-chip integration teams for QoR and test readiness.
- Improve methodology and automation through scripting and tooling enhancements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven track record in ASIC physical design and signoff at advanced nodes (8+ years preferred).
- Hands-on experience with floorplanning, power-grid design, placement, CTS, routing and timing closure.
- Experience ensuring DRC/LVS clean signoff and managing IR drop / electromigration issues.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve congestion, SI/crosstalk and ECO-related problems.
- Experience driving timing closure across multi-corner multi-mode (MCMM) scenarios with STA teams.
- Proficiency with scripting for automation (e.g., TCL, Python) and improving design flows.
- Strong cross-functional communication and ability to coordinate with RTL, DFT, packaging and integration groups.
- Nice-to-have: experience leading or mentoring teams and contributing to organization-wide design methodology.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Microelectronics.
