Job Title

Lead Hardware / Software Test Development Engineer

Role Summary

Lead development and sustainment of hardware validation and production test software for enterprise server, storage and networking products used in high-volume manufacturing. Work with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams to define test architecture, implement test systems, and deploy solutions across multiple customers and manufacturing regions.

Experience Level

Senior level — minimum 5–8 years' experience in manufacturing test development or sustaining for enterprise server, storage, or networking products.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, deployment and support of production test systems and software.

  • Design and develop test systems for server-level (L10) and rack-level (L11/L12) hardware validation in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Create test plans, test cases, and automated test scripts for components such as motherboards, memory, CPU, storage (SSD/HDD/NVMe), and PCIe devices (NIC, GPU, mezzanine, RAID).
  • Develop, validate, release, and maintain test software to control equipment, collect/analyze test data, and generate reports.
  • Sustain and support deployed test software and infrastructure, implementing minor configuration changes for new product variants or revisions.
  • Document manufacturing test procedures, specifications, and infrastructure for production sites.
  • Collaborate with hardware, manufacturing, and quality teams to align testing requirements and quality standards.
  • Participate in multi-site deployments and support cross-site integration and troubleshooting.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role; preferred items are listed separately.

  • 5–8+ years in manufacturing test development/sustaining with enterprise server, storage or networking products.
  • Hands-on experience with server hardware validation and manufacturing test systems (roles limited to software QA or web/app testing without hardware interaction will not be considered).
  • Strong programming/scripting skills: Python and Bash required; Java, C/C++ are beneficial.
  • Linux development experience (CentOS, Ubuntu) and familiarity with system fundamentals.
  • Experience with hardware control and management APIs/tools: IPMI, Redfish, and test/stress tools such as mprime, FIO, Linpack, ptugen, memtester, iperf.
  • Experience creating and configuring VMs and PXE/DHCP boot environments; web server basics (e.g., nginx) and VMware usage.
  • Proficiency with source control and software engineering practices (Git, code reviews, CI/build processes, testing and operations).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in multi-site, multi-cultural environments.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.

Preferred

  • Experience with hyperscale customers and test architecture design.
  • Experience with enterprise datacenter networking (L1–L3) and related platforms; Arista CloudVision is a plus.
  • 10+ years in the electronics manufacturing industry preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is preferred; a Master’s degree in EE/CE or Computer Science is listed as preferred. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
