Lead Engineer, Senior - Performance Modeling
QualcommJob Title
Lead Engineer, Senior - Performance Modeling
Role Summary
Senior ASIC systems engineer responsible for end-to-end hardware architecture definition, validation and performance/power optimization for audio and edge-AI subsystems across mobile, XR, compute and automotive platforms.
The role partners with product, hardware and software teams to capture requirements, produce subsystem specifications, validate architectures through modeling and simulation, and support post-silicon commercialization.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically requires 8β10+ years of experience in ASIC design, verification, or related systems engineering roles (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include system architecture, modeling, validation, and team technical leadership.
- Own end-to-end ASIC system architecture for audio and Edge-AI subsystems.
- Capture detailed technology requirements with product, hardware and software teams.
- Develop subsystem hardware specifications and define module interfaces/formats.
- Create architecture validation plans and perform system simulation and modeling to evaluate power and performance.
- Optimize and debug designs using modeling, simulation and testing methodologies.
- Support post-silicon commercialization and customer engineering documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and act as tech lead on projects; own team deliverables.
- Contribute to patentable architecture innovations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and proven experience; nice-to-have items listed where applicable.
- Proven experience in DSP, machine learning algorithms, SoC hardware and computer architecture concepts applied to system requirements.
- Expertise in low-power design methodology, optimization and validation.
- Experience with digital system performance analysis, system-level modeling and simulation.
- Hands-on with HDL and digital design: Verilog/VHDL; familiarity with SystemC, C/C++ for modeling.
- Familiarity with ASIC design and simulation toolchains (Synopsys/Cadence/Mentor) and power analysis flows.
- Experience using modeling and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink and related toolboxes; diagramming tools (Visio) useful.
- Scripting and automation skills: Python, Perl, TCL or similar.
- Experience leading engineering teams or acting as technical lead on medium-to-large projects.
- Post-silicon support experience and ability to produce customer-facing technical documentation.
Education Requirements
Degree requirements vary by role level: acceptable credentials include a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or other related technical fields. One documented set of minimums is: Bachelor's +10+ years ASIC design/verification experience, Master's +8+ years, or PhD (no years specified). An alternate Systems Engineering minimum listed is: Bachelor's +3 years, Master's +2 years, or PhD +1 year. Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable where noted.
