Job Title
Lead Embedded Firmware/Software Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development of HAL and peripheral device drivers for MCX, Crossover RT and i.MX families to run in bare-metal, ROM and RTOS environments. Deliver tested, documented reference code and verify software on pre-silicon platforms (RTL, emulation).
The role supports key customers, debugs system-level issues with cross-functional teams, and maintains repository quality through code review, issue triage, and release management.
Experience Level
Senior β requires approximately 7+ years of related embedded firmware/software engineering experience.
Responsibilities
The engineer will develop, verify, and maintain low-level firmware and ROM software; collaborate with hardware and system teams; and support customers and releases.
- Design and implement HAL and peripheral drivers (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, Flash) for multiple SoC families.
- Develop code for bare-metal, ROM and RTOS environments; ensure high test coverage and robustness.
- Verify and debug software on pre-silicon platforms (RTL, emulation) and on-target hardware.
- Harden critical code sections to meet security and safety requirements.
- Provide customer support and resolve system-level issues with global teams.
- Manage full development lifecycle: branching/forking, pull requests, code review, and merging.
- Triage issues, maintain repository quality, and produce documentation and reference code.
Requirements
Required skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- Approximately 7+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware/software development.
- Proven experience developing device drivers and low-level firmware (HAL).
- Strong C/C++ skills; familiarity with ARM assembly. Rust and Python are advantageous.
- Experience with ARM and/or RISC-V architectures.
- Experience with build tools and toolchains: GCC, GNU make; familiarity with ARM compilers (IAR, Keil, DS-5) preferred.
- Experience with pre-silicon verification and debugging (RTL, emulation) and using logic analyzers/oscilloscopes.
- Familiarity with peripheral protocols and subsystems: Flash, SPI, I2C, USB, UART, CAN.
- Experience with version control, code review workflow and Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bitbucket) preferred.
- Ability to produce well-documented, tested reference code and collaborate across hardware, verification, and systems teams.
Education Requirements
BS/MS/BE in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related embedded-software field is listed; MS/BE with ~7 years' related experience is indicated as required. Equivalent practical experience considered.
