Lead EDA Engineer

Role Summary

Lead backend physical verification strategy and design enablement for analog and mixed-signal programs across advanced process nodes. Serve as the technical authority for Calibre-based verification flows, foundry rule integration, signoff readiness, and multi-site EDA infrastructure from concept through tapeout.

Work closely with layout, design, CAD, and program teams to resolve critical verification issues, improve verification velocity, and ensure tapeout readiness. This role may require up to 10% travel.

Experience Level

Senior level. Preferred / typical candidate has 10+ years of relevant experience in backend physical verification, signoff, and EDA flow architecture.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining verification methodology, resolving critical signoff issues, and enabling teams for reliable tapeouts.

• Provide technical leadership for backend physical verification flows, signoff methodology, and cross-project support.
• Define, develop, and evolve Calibre-based DRC, LVS, ERC, PERC, and parasitic extraction flows for analog and mixed-signal designs.
• Lead debug and escalation for complex runset, rule deck, extraction, and signoff issues with cross-project or tapeout impact.
• Drive foundry rule intake, validation, integration, and release readiness for new nodes and rule deck updates.
• Own or guide final signoff execution, waiver governance, and tapeout deliverables.
• Partner with layout, design, and CAD teams to establish robust project setups and reduce schedule risk.
• Develop internal automation, dashboards, and verification utilities to improve debug visibility, result analysis, and resource efficiency.
• Influence multi-site EDA infrastructure, compute farm usage, license allocation, and environment reliability.
• Establish standards, documentation, and mentor engineers on verification methodologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

• Deep backend physical verification expertise: DRC, LVS, ERC, PERC, parasitic extraction, and tapeout readiness.
• Calibre mastery: Expert with Mentor Calibre including development and debug of SVRF/TVF rule sets and complex verification issues.
• Foundry/node experience: Strong experience with TSMC design rules, tapeout procedures, and foundry interfaces at advanced nodes (examples: 16nm, 5nm, 4nm).
• Flow architecture and debug leadership: Define methodologies and lead high-impact debug across teams.
• Scripting and tool development: Proficient in Python, Tcl, Shell, or similar for building automation and verification utilities.
• EDA infrastructure: Strong understanding of Linux-based EDA environments, compute infrastructure, license utilization, and distributed workflows.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Proven ability to work with Design, Layout, CAD, and program teams to align priorities and drive outcomes.
• Analog physical design knowledge: Solid understanding of analog IC layout practices and physical verification challenges.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience supporting digital physical design or place-and-route verification flows.
• Experience with Perforce for design data management.
• Experience with Cadence Virtuoso customization (SKILL, bindkeys) or layout environment setup.
• Experience with EDA license management, run resource optimization, multi-site compute coordination, or building GUI-based tools and dashboards.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted methods to improve engineering productivity and debug efficiency.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience (example: 10+ years related experience accepted in lieu of degree).
