Lead Analyst, Algorithm Research & Development

Role Summary

Design and implement computer vision and machine learning algorithms for KLA's semiconductor inspection and metrology products (LS-SWIFT division). Work with cross-functional engineering teams to develop, prototype, and productionize real-time image-processing solutions for wafer inspection.

Experience Level

Senior (lead-level). Typical experience guidance: candidates with a Master’s degree may qualify with minimal related work experience; candidates with a Bachelor’s degree typically require ~2 years related experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include research, algorithm development, prototyping, and production engineering for inspection systems.

• Develop and optimize image processing algorithms for defect detection and classification on semiconductor wafers.
• Research and integrate computer vision and machine learning techniques to improve inspection accuracy and throughput.
• Prototype algorithms in Python and convert prototypes into production-ready C++ implementations.
• Target implementations for real-time inspection systems; ensure scalability and performance under production constraints.
• Work across software, hardware, and product teams to integrate algorithms into inspection systems on Windows and Linux platforms.

• Strong background in computer vision, image processing, and applied machine learning.
• Proficiency in Python for prototyping and C++ for production development.
• Experience developing and optimizing algorithms for real-time performance and scalability.
• Familiarity with development and debugging on Windows and Linux environments.
• Solid software engineering practices: testing, version control, and performance profiling.
• Effective communicator and team collaborator across multidisciplinary engineering groups.
• Nice-to-have: experience in semiconductor inspection/metrology, knowledge of wafer inspection workflows, GPU acceleration, or published research in related areas.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field. Minimum-qualification guidance from the employer: Master’s degree with 0 years related work experience, or Bachelor’s degree with ~2 years related work experience.
